| COVE(R)N: A Conceptual Description | |||
|
Cove(r)n is a gathering of thirteen six foot high textile structures, which I refer to as tea cosies, three of which will be motorized. All tea cosies in Cove(r)n are constructed in the same manner as a tea cosy of lesser stature. Each tea cosy represents a type of woman. Some of them correspond to the generally accepted archetypes recurring in myth and psychoanalytic theories. Others are my invention. Each tea cosy has an image projected on the back. The tea cosy is a cover for a tea pot, the vessel. Women wear clothing suitable to the kind of vessel they are. The kind of vessel determines type, although many a woman has subverted the type. The tea cosy shape, a mound, is a favourite among human beings. Some cultures build strong houses in this shape (Inuit & Arab) and others built temples to their deities in this shape (Ancient Celts of England, Ireland & France). It seems to have universal significance which may be because human beings make their first passage through a mound, the mound of Venus.
